Geology Class Visits Giboney Cave |
|
|
On October 3rd, the Geology class went to Giboney Cave in Springfield to gain field experience in identifying cave formations. The guide pointed out several unique features, such as flowstones and fossil crinoids, on the ceiling. We were also treated to seeing two albino crayfish (crawdads) that live and reproduce in this cave. Along with the cave sites we spent 10 minutes crawling in the mud tubes. This is a narrow portion of the cave that can only be navigated on your belly that contains a wet, sticky, red mud. As you might guess, this was the most memorable part of the cave as teacher and students alike greeted each other with pats on the back and a helping hand to the face.
